meet Ryan Hanson

Trainer – Hanson Racing

Ryan Hanson is a horseman fulfilling a four-generation family tradition. Based in Southern California, Hanson was a licensed jockey from age 16, having spent his formative years around horses and learning skills from breaking to riding. Hanson was a World Champion Chariot racer in 2006, following in the footsteps of both his father and grandfather.

Ryan Hanson – Hanson RacingHanson continued his career as an exerciser and assistant trainer, working with his father, Jim. He found his specialty in breaking promising prospects and taming problem horses that show potential–valuable assets when developing an eye for claiming.

Ryan’s gate work and eye for talent brought him into the company of Multiple Graded Stakes winning trainers like H. Graham Motion and Robertino Diodoro. Hanson worked as Diodoro’s Southern California Assistant Trainer before going on to start his own stable.

Since then, Hanson’s experience and work ethic in his training shines through in his results. With 60 wins in 364 starts (16% Win) a show with Weston in the Runhappy Del Mar Futurity (Gr. 1) and a win in the Best Pal Stakes (Gr. 2), Hanson has just started to make his mark in the competitive landscape of Southern California Thoroughbred racing.

Having been around horses all his life and working with race horses at every stage of their career, from foaling to breaking to racing, Ryan is a hands-on trainer with a knack for spotting talent that a less experienced eye might miss.
