After twenty plus years working in the dental field in surgery with sedation and teaching first aid and medical procedures, I was fortunate to work for a dentist who owned a Quarter Horse. I started caring for the horse and trail riding with a friend on weekends. After a freak accident in the field the horse was moved closer to me so I could work closely with the vet during his recovery.

For my 50th birthday my husband bought that horse for me and my life changed forever! I learned how to tow a trailer, load, transport and unload a horse, build a barn, stall maintenance, build a fence and fence repair, build a round pen and do groundwork with my horses, drive a tractor, basic equipment maintenance and repair, seed and fertilize a field, pull a harrow, bush hog a field, haul large round hay bales on a spear with my tractor, spread and compost manure, administer medications and sedatives as needed, treat trauma wounds, feeding and weight management, worming, vaccinations, hoof care, leg wrapping, bathing and grooming (including horse show prep), and tack maintenance and repair.

I was a Senior Board Member for several Saddle Clubs and under the guidance of a close friend I successfully trained and rode my horses to multiple Grand Championships in local horse shows.
Five years ago I retired and we sold our farm and horses and moved back to my hometown in Kentucky. Retirement wasn’t for me and I missed my horses. Fortunately a help wanted ad for Shamrock Highlands Thoroughbreds saved me. Working with thoroughbreds has been challenging and I learn so many new things every day. I love working with “our” horses. I give my heart to each of them, teaching the babies manners and basic skills, handling the yearlings and getting them ready to go to the trainer, preparing the mares for breeding and caring for them during pregnancy and helping the racehorses who come home from the track to decompress, relax and rejoin the herd.
