This fall has been a great season for Shamrock Highlands Thoroughbreds. With the help of Ben Colebrook’s capable training, two more of our properties have broken their maidens. In fact, of our last four starts, three have been wins!
At Thistledown on August 26th, where SUM MORE BIZZNESS was entered into a $26,400 MSW race for one mile on the dirt. A hop on the gate meant a tough start for Machado, who nevertheless found the pace and made slow, steady gains on the backstretch before making a decisive move on the final turn. Coming in between a group of three at two wide, Sum More Business was in the lead by a head in the final stretch. Machado masterfully took the wire, giving SUM MORE BIZZNESS a win on the Filly’s second start.
Fast forward to Belterra less than two weeks later, where Luan Machado rode DOWN TO BIZZNESS in a $12500 Maiden Claimer. In a field of seven, Bizz squared away first place by more than 4 lengths. DOWN TO BIZZNESS went on to get claimed, and we wish the claimers the best with this strong line. The potential is certainly proven!
Adding to our wins at the end of the month, September 22nd brought ZIPPER ZAPPER to a field of five for a $7500 Maiden Claimer at Belterra. After a great start, tempered by Machado’s skill, Zipper took a commanding win by four lengths. Now he heads to Keeneland this week to try his luck in a class up.
