2024 Breeding update, 2 down and 2 to go

Abstract white torn paper edge on green.

So far first-time success with 2 of our mares Dotada by Violence is in foal with heartbeat confirmed to freshman sire Lexitonian. A highly rated cross with a high % of stakes horses to total foals. “I love the Speightstown / Medaglia d’Oro cross” Jeff Callan Managing Director said. “The cross has produced a high % of winners to starters and Stakes horses to overall foals”. Dotada, a $160,000 2 y-old purchase had her race career ended with a sesamoid break. “She needed some stall rest and rehab when we bought her but she is 100% sound and enjoying her time in the field and starting her new career with us” “She has incredible confirmation and size and we are fortunate to have this quality mare at our farm”

Grandma’s Rules by Orientate is confirmed in foal to established veteran stallion Oxbow sire of Tuz a G1 stakes winner this year of the Golden Shaheen in Dubai exploding mid-stretch to win by a record 6 plus lengths at the wire. The cross of Grandma to Oxbow is a true Nicks A++ 79.87 variant. “Grandma was on the board in 12 of 15 lifetime starts winning 7 of those. She was long on the turf and oxbow is on the sprint side but shows he can go the mile as well. Dirt, Turf, AW, long or short we should have a very versatile foal” Callan said. “Love to cross, love the body type match up of the two and we are very excited to see what we get in 2025”.

Scent of Royalty by Classic Empire is under contract to breed to Channel Cat a son of the great English Channel. Scent finished third in her first start MSW at Churchill downs and has 2 thirds in 3 lifetime starts her career ended by a broken bone in her front. “On this one we bred for the classical distance and targeted the turf but the foal should be very capable on turf or dirt surfaces based on pedigree. The sure thing is this cross is bred for the distance” Callan says. An unheard-of True Nicks A++ 106.88 Variant from this cross. “I really look at what I like comparing build and body of the mare and stallion and the type of race distance and surface we are targeting. Once I have narrowed that down True Nicks is another data point to see what the statistics tell us. I was astounded by this variance rating” Callan states. “She didn’t take the first breeding and she checked out good at the clinic so were hoping she takes the next round. Her maternal line is high quality, the mare had race ability and we are looking forward to getting her in foal”

Feasting by The Big Beast is under contract to bred to Tale of Ekati. “I really like Tale of Ekati as a stallion and we have had one filly from another mare stillborn from him who was an absolutely perfect foal. We bred Princess back to him and unfortunately, she had what looks like an aortic aneurysm and died while in foal. Feasting is a great match with him with a high % of winners from foals and stakes horses from foals. This is more the sprinter target here” Callan says. Feasting is in great shape after foaling this year and is ready to breed back.

“We are blessed to have the class of mares we have in the 4 of them especially from a small farm. My thanks and appreciation to Calumet and Darby Dan farms for all their support and enthusiasm with these selections. Two to go and then we’ll sit and wait till 2025 and see what we get. I am expecting some very nice foals with lots of potential”
