Shamrock Highlands Thoroughbreds has now submitted final contracts for the 2026 breeding season. Black-typed mare Grandma’s Rules, winner of 7 of 15 starts, including 2 listed stakes and over $210,000, will be bred once again to Oxbow. Grandma’s Rules has a yearling colt by Oxbow. “The Oxbow colt Spool up has been everything we could have wanted from a foal. He is of great size, muscled, balanced, and intelligent,” says Jeff Callan, Managing Director. “The cross statistically is excellent, and the colt reflects that as well. It’s hard to argue what has all the indications of a winning combination”. Oxbow GI winner of the Preakness and runner-up in the GI Belmont Stakes and sire of Tuz, winner of 10 races, including 6 graded stakes, with earnings of $ 2,295,516 and, has proven to be a very durable and consistent racehorse.
The newest addition to the Shamrock Highlands farm, Parawan, is under contract to breed to Channel Cat. Channel Cat, who has in his last 19 starts competed in all graded stakes races and is a winner of the GI Man of War stakes with earnings of $1,481,022. Parawan, herself a 4-time winner and by the solid broodmare sire Pioneer of the Nile, is in foal to Scalding, son of Nyquist. Parwan’s female line includes stallions Fierceness, Outwork, and Cairo Prince. “The Channel Cat statistical match is very interesting,” according to Jeff Callan, Managing Director. “He is extremely durable and competitive, racing consistently at very high levels. Parawan is long, tall, and lean, and Channel Cat showed good speed that could be maintained over the distance races.” “We think this combination provides us with offspring that can run on any surface and is exceptionally durable, at least that’s the hope with this cross.”
